'We gave everything' London firefighter leaves emotional tribute to Grenfell Tower victims

The firefighter’s bouquet of flowers, wrapped in pink wrapping paper, was left among other messages of condolence near the tower.

A handwritten message on the bouquet read: “We’ve never worked harder. We gave everything. Sorry it wasn’t enough.”

More than 250 firefighters were called to deal with the towering inferno, which has killed at least 30 people.

Theresa May yesterday announced a £5 million aid package for those affected by the fire.

Mrs May said: “The package of support I’m announcing today is to give the victims the immediate support they need to care for themselves and for loved ones. We will continue to look at what more needs to be done.

“Everyone affected by this tragedy needs reassurance that the Government is there for them at this terrible time – and that is what I am determined to provide.”

The Prime Minister visited residents yesterday but is facing mounting criticism after not meeting those affected by the blaze sooner.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, London mayor Sadiq Khan, Prince William and Queen Elizabeth have all visited the local area.

Grenfell Tower provided social housing for roughly 600 people.
