England U21 0-0 Sweden as it happened: Pickford the hero in Euro U21 Championship opener

England Under-21s start their Under-21 Euros campaign in Poland today with a clash against Sweden (5pm).

England will be looking to replicate the Under-20s side that won the World Cup is South Korea earlier this month.

England have not won the tournament since 1984, having reached the final just once since then in 2009.

The Young Lions lost 4-0 to Germany in the final in Sweden eight years ago.

Optimism is high heading into this tournament, with England manager Aidy Boothroyd having a wealth of Premier League talent to choose from.

England v Sweden kicks off the tournament in Kielce’s 15,500-seater Kolporter Arena.

Discussing the clash ahead of kick off, Boothroyd said: “We have some who are playing regularly in the Premier League, played in cup finals, been in promotions, play-off finals, and a staff which has been there before and very experienced.

“We’re in a good place and just want to get going and put all our game plans into action.”
